We’re not all monsters!

I’m sure you’ve heard our forlorn tales of woe
As told beyond by overzealous talebearers
Who in innocence bring our repute so low
You’ve seen the cruel images and clips
Of death and dying, of despair and grave sorrow
But you also must know, we’re not all monsters!

Our myriad misery you must have seen
As published by brute agents of the press
That leave our laughter behind the scene
And feed only on our sombre sadness
For to them only our grass is green
Alas! Not all of us are monstrous!

We’re not all murderers, thieves or felons
Many amidst us are products of hard work
We’re not all terrorists, extremists or rebels
The humanity of many remains on track
We’re not all devious swindlers or charlatans
Not all black-skinned men are black!

Not all are victims of vile chronic ailments
Not all are afflicted by poverty and famine
Not all are destitute, living nowhere but the streets
Not all our land is a decimated war zone
We’re not all monsters; we’re not all parasites
For many, more than you know are humane!

Look beyond the unfairly deficient headlines
And perhaps the pious truth you might see
Read past the cold icy lines
Like a fog cleared from a scenic sea
Then might you see the beauty that in us shines
For we are not all beasts, or menace to be!
